The First Version of the Colorado State Flag

The Colorado state flag first came into existence in 1911, when a group of school children in Denver won a contest that was sponsored by the Colorado State Legislature. The winning design was created by Andrew Carlisle Johnson and featured yellow and gold stripes, a white background, and a red “C” in the center, which stood for “Colorado.”

1964 Colorado State Flag Update

The original design of the Colorado state flag was in use until 1964, when a new design was introduced. This new design featured a white stripe in the middle, which was meant to represent the state’s mountains, with a gold circle in the center, which was meant to represent the sun. The red letter C was also changed to the gold circle.

1969 Colorado State Flag Modifications

In 1969, the design of the Colorado state flag was modified again, this time to feature a blue stripe on the top, white in the middle, and red on the bottom. The gold circle in the center was replaced with a yellow-orange circle containing a red letter C. This is the design of the Colorado state flag that is still in use today.

Colorado State Flag Pride

Since its adoption in 1911, the Colorado state flag has become a symbol of pride and unity in the state of Colorado. It is flown proudly throughout the state and is often featured in parades, public events, and other celebrations. The flag is also seen in many forms of public art, including murals, sculptures, and artwork. It is a reminder of the state’s scenic beauty and its vibrant culture and heritage.
